Fwd: About CONCERN for Alcohol Addicts

May be usefulll.....

Courtesy: kamal nath kamalnath1@gmail.com

Bhanu Suresh Babu Founder of CONCERN started in February 2008  and since then serves CONCERN as its Project Director.

She says "My father died due to alcoholism, and my husband was an alcoholic. I saw people affected by addiction, and how it affected their physical, mental and values lost life as that of mine and wanted to start a program to help the alcoholics recover."

"After my son was born, my husband's drinking and the disease progressed within a span of seven years. We experienced the depth of alcoholism. There was a serial on television on alcoholism and it was only through this, we came to know about TTK.- a pioneer and research institution in field of Alcoholism & Addiction "This institution's strenuous efforts has recovered about one lakh persons across the country from the dreaded disease called alcoholism.

"When I admitted my husband in TTK for addiction treatment in 1995, I learnt that alcoholism is a disease and can only be treated but not cured. Mrs. Shanthi Ranganathan, Director of TTK has been my source of inspiration. My husband is sober for over 15 years now. I have a son pursuing his Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture in Germany. I have dedicated my life for CONCERN as my family is settled now."

"I worked as a volunteer at TTK, after my husband was treated. Dr. Shanthi Ranganathan who was awarded Bharat Rathna by the Union Government of India, encouraged me to pursue my studies. I did my Bachelor's Degree, Master Degree in Psychology and M.Phil in Psychology and studied various courses related to addiction. I received many experience from a fellowship of caregivers of alcoholics and in the course of my pursuit to gain more knowledge on alcoholism and addiction I was introduced to Dr Azhar Hakim of Queen of Peace, a rehabilitation centre doing yeoman service in the field of addictions in the United States, From the rich knowledge he imparted on how to treat an alcoholic by using simple methods motivated me to start CONCERN,

As a caregiver I learnt that this was a life-long process and underwent a few counseling courses besides reading many books on addiction. I authored a protocol for a 15-day treatment, and made the treatment procedure simple, so that anyone who is willing to give up alcohol can walk into the centre with confidence and go out with a sense of confidence & hope."

"Prior to starting CONCERN I worked with several NGOs connected with de-addiction in order to gain experience. I worked with TTK for five years, taking care of rehabilitation and as a senior counselor in Freedom Foundation which is also engaged in the field of alcoholism & drug abuse. My husband works for a nationalized bank, and joins me in serving those affected by alcoholism. We named our organization CONCERN because we mean it. We have genuine concern towards alcoholics. We wish to see many families lead a happy life."

"The challenges I faced in the people who come for treatment, is that they come with a lot of opinions and theories about addiction. This is only a myth. The fact is that addiction to alcohol or any substance is connected to physical craving and mental obsession. Once, a person gets addicted to alcohol they require professional help and need to undergo treatment."ALCOHOLISM is a disease .The World Health Organization has declared this as a disease way back in 1956.

"We offer motivation to the patients when they arrive at the centre by a team of qualified professionals in Medicine, Psychology, Nursing etc We provide de-toxification treatment for three days, where IV fluids along with multi vitamins are provided and sleep pattern is regulated. Most of them will not be able to eat initially after this; they are provided psycho-therapy for 12 days. The psycho-therapy protocol is based on very important books on addiction. We make them understand their traits, thinking pattern errors and needs that are deprived."

"After the initial treatment, they are provided a relapse prevention therapy for a week period. Here, they are provided de-toxification and are counseled on prevention of relapse. In case, they relapse, they are put into a transit home where they can go to work from the rehabilitation home. They would be provided an anti-abuse treatment before they leave for work. This medicine would cause allergy to the body, if alcohol is taken."

"We treat alcoholism in a simple holistic manner we counsel family members to take care of the addicted family member to recover. A 15-day caregivers program is also offered by CONCERN to the family members."

Till date, 160 persons have been treated for alcoholism and we have seen 50% recovery rate. Others who relapse return voluntarily and strive to recover. Out-patient treatment is offered for those, who cannot get admitted for 15 days.

We also give awareness programs free of cost and willing to do with corporate and industries for the benefit of the employees and the employer.

Due to the current lifestyles people have very less time to get rehabilitated of priorities and tasks to complete so we have introduced "TELEPHONIC COUNSELING" which can be done home based at their possible hours and counseling "CARE GIVERS" are also done by telephone.

Confidential Home based care is also done to celebrities with signed agreement of anonymous treatment, the whole medical team signs the document.

Charges for de-addiction treatment are nominal and concession is offered for those who cannot afford the treatment. For further information, contact Bhanu Suresh Babu at…

'Heal a Child' bears medical expenses

The foundation ties up with six private hospitals
It has helped six children since June

On a mission: Dinesh, Rachna Mehta, Diana Hayden and Kiran during the launch of 'Heal a Child' Foundation on Friday. —

HYDERABAD: To help critically ill children in dire need of medical attention and lack the financial resources to undergo treatment, Heal a Child Foundation, a charitable trust and non-profit organisation has come forward to bear the expenses of their treatment.
The mission of the foundation would be to heal and save critically ill children who may not survive, not because of their illness but only because the family cannot afford to pay for the medical expenses and treatment, said Rachna Mehta, a trustee with Heal a Child Foundation.
Reaching out
In Hyderabad, 10 children need critical care everyday. All of them need treatment, but we need to reach out to at least one child a day, said former Miss World Diana Hayden, who is the brand ambassador of the foundation.
The Foundation has tied up with six private hospitals in the city – Rainbow Children's Hospital, Lotus Children's Hospital, Apollo Hospital, KIMS Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Nice Hospital.
According to an understanding, the hospitals will treat the children in a special category and support the foundation by giving maximum possible concession on the medical bills, it was stated.
"At this stage, we are not going to the children. They have to go to the hospitals. If they are unable to undergo treatment because of financial constraints, then we step in," said Dr. Dinesh Kumar, a trustee of the foundation and director of neonatal and paediatric intensive care service at Rainbow Children's Hospital.
Appeal
Speaking at a press conference to announce the launch of the foundation, Ms. Hayden requested corporates to step in and help children in dire need of medical aid. We aim to raise funds for the care of critically ill children needing intensive care support with a specific focus on the new born. We are especially interested in saving the girl child, said Ms. Hayden.

Set up in June this year, the foundation has helped treat six children during the last 1.5 months, according to Dr. Dinesh. We also helped one child whose father is a worker in a cloth shop in Godavarikhani about two months back, he said.

NGO for Physically challenged

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: ManiKanth - ARROW team <manikanth@arrowindia.org>
Date: Tue, Feb 23, 2010 at 7:56 PM
Subject: Re: Migrant kids not going to school.
To: birdsofsamefeathers <birdsofsamefeathers@googlegroups.com>

Hello Friends,

In case of the "Physically challenged" boy (son of Hashami, water melon seller), I have an idea about a provider. You might have listened the name of "Sweekar-Upkaar". SWEEKAAR is a non-profit , non-commercial voluntary organization rendering services to Mentally Challenged, Mentally ill, Physically, Visually, Hearing Handicapped, Aged, Drug Addicts, Widows and Destitute for the past 32 years. They also provide Artificial limbs to Handicaps.

The main branch in Hyderabad is located near "Jubilee Bus Station" (JBS, Sec'bad) Picket, Sec'bad. If the candidate is taken there, they will check the condition and prescribe the kind of treatment to be given. Candidate needs to take that Prescription and go to their branch where they keep the artificial limbs. I know one of them which is located at "Bansilal pet" near Bible House. They would fix the artificial limb at very nominal cost in general and FREE OF COST for White ration card holders, after submitting the xerox copies
of the same plus few other formalities. They can provide light weight synthetic artificial limbs. but we need to specify or insist, else wooden or metal one is heavy and cause inconvenience to the candidates.

You may suggest the candidate to first visit the SWEEKAR UPKAAR main center and consult the doctors. They would suggest the remaining procedure. I think it would be good if the candidate is either taken or recommended by some organisation. It would add some weight age and get the work done promptly. I was personally involved in providing an artificial leg to a candidate before 3 years through the same procedure mentioned above. Hope it is same and works fine till now.

Good luck.

In Tanker, they only do dialysis at free of cost, when the injections are provided by the patient. They will neither do any transplantation nor treat any other uro diseases.

Hi All,

A friend forwarded me the following information... I did not do any background check of this organization, just assuming the information is authentic as my friend goes on to mention that this information is validated..

I've heard many cases where people cant afford the ongoing Dialysis cost. While the whole ordeal of treating Kidney problems can be draining on the patient and their family..this is very heartening and good to know that there is an NGO helping needy patients.
