Visit of Desire Foundation on 16.08.10

Dear Team,

On 16^th August 31, 2010 we have visited "DESIRE FOUNDATION" (home for HIV, Aids children) bollaram, Miyapur  cross, Medak dist.

We have visited this home to celebrated Smitha'S Sons birthday.

We donated 3 Wall fans (each cost Rs. 1400/-), Apple and bananas to children. We spent time there from 5.30 to 7.30p.m

Children entertained us with songs, rhymes, stories etc.

Ravi garu founder of the home extended his gratitude to our group for referring their home to challenge (MAA TV) team which donated them in kind financial help of 80000/- and telecasted their home details in TV Channels (after which he received calls even from other countries).

My special thanks to Smitha and her son, Prabha, Adhi Lakshmi for making this event grand success.

Hello All

Most of the scholarships set up by government are targeted towards B.C, S.C and S.T, but there are people below the poverty line in the O.C. So the one i am providing the details is for the benefit of the All ( Including OC ).

Again for this September 30th is the last date. Scholarship amount is 300 Per month.

Number of Scholarships is : 1000 only. But there are benefits , please go through the details.

Accordingly, notifications was issued in all leading dailies both in Telugu and English inviting applications for the grant of scholarships to students passed S.S.C./O.S.S.C, 2009-10 with not less than 500 marks from the academic year 2009-10, fixing the last date as 30-09-2010.   In response totally 3649 applications were received before the specified date.  The list was prepared in a descending order.  All eligible applicants upto (inclusive) 520 marks numbering 1021 was provisionally selected.  So far, an mount of Rs. 35,85,600 was released from the funds of S.V.Vidya Dana Trust, Tirupati, to 996 students from out of 1021, who fulfilled the conditions stipulated, being the scholarship amounts for the financial year 2009-10 at Rs. 300/- per month per head and the amounts was credited to the respective individual student's Bank On-line accounts.

           S.V.Vidya Dana Trust, Tirupati, is a registered body, and the donors are eligible for Income Tax exemption under relevant provisions of the Income Tax Act.

May be i am putting the important information in the last moment,but still people who wanted to help the minorities in getting the scholarship still you have chance. Even i am running for the final make up and busy in the activity from the last one day.

Before reading the below , take this point into consideration. Last date for reaching the scholarships to Delhi is 31st August.

Criteria for the scholarship :

1 ) Only for girls

2 ) +1 and +2 Students. ( Preferably +1 Students )

3) Should have 350 ( 55% ) marks in the SSC examination.

On behalf of ITMD group, we have tried to group up to 17 students from BHEL govt Jr college and making them to apply for the scholarships. They have to pay for the 20 Bond stamp paper and notary. Even they are not ready to pay that amount. So we have some how managed to help them with those things.

Hoping at least 10 of them get scholarships. 6000 Rs is the scholarship amount per annum. So for 2 years they will pay 12,000.

Happy birthday to Mother

Hi Friends….

As we all are working for the same cause…it is our duty to remind her Selfless deeds once again in order to get some inspiration and keep our desires of helping others burning till the last minute….

This day marks the birth centenary of a simple nun who, through her work among the poorest of the poor, became the conscience-keeper of her century.

Today, August 26, 2010, the birth centenary of Mother Teresa will be marked with celebration and thanksgiving in many parts of the world. This simple nun with her unique brand of faith and compassion was able to alleviate loneliness, hunger and destitution by reaching out through a worldwide mission to millions of abandoned, homeless and dying destitutes, irrespective of their religion, caste, faith or denomination. In the process she became, indisputably, the conscience-keeper of her century.

As one who was associated with her for 23 years and became one of her biographers, it is not easy to encapsulate her remarkable journey. Born in Skopje, a city in the folds of the Balkans, then as now a crucible of many religions and races, she was the youngest of three children of deeply Catholic Albanian parents. Her father died when she was seven; her mother struggled to feed her family and turned increasingly to the local church for spiritual sustenance. Young Agnes (as she was then known) encountered uncertainty and adversity early in life. The lessons of diligence, discipline, frugality and kindness were imbibed in these early years.

Today, when teenagers often have difficulty making up their minds as to which course to study and where, Agnes had decided, at the age of 14, to serve as a missionary, not in her local church, but in faraway India, then a world apart, of which decision the only certainty was that she would never return home.

A new life opened in Calcutta in 1929. She had joined the Loreto Order as a novice aged 19. Here she would take her religious vows and teach for almost 20 years. In 1948, in an even more cataclysmic turn of events, again entirely of her own making, she left the convent doors behind her for a vision of the street. She had realised that this was where her true vocation lay, and she pursued this goal with diligence, even obstinacy. This she did till the Vatican made her its first exception in several hundred years, permitting her to step out of the Loreto Order, but with her vows intact. She would remain a nun but without belonging to an established Order of the Church. These were early signs of spirit and will power, together with prayerfulness and faith, laced with not inconsiderable charm, which would provide the propulsion for the quite incredible journey that lay ahead.

The early milestones lay in recognition within her adopted country – first by the legendary Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. B.C. Roy, to be followed by national recognition when Jawaharlal Nehru was instrumental in India awarding her the Padma Shri in 1962. Later, another redoubtable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu, was to provide her his unstinted support.

By 1965, she had set up a vast network of service across India. The time had come for her to move her mission overseas. She saw need everywhere; there were plenty of the poor and hungry in divisive societies in each continent, in desperately poor and prosperous societies alike. And so she set up feeding centres and leprosy stations in Africa, AIDS hospices in North America, community programmers in the Australian outback, and a host of services that helped lift the most marginalised, hungry and lonely from a desolate life in streets and slums of Africa, Asia and the West.

"God loves a cheerful giver" was a refrain I would often hear as I walked with the smiling Sisters of her Order among sullen faces under London's Waterloo Bridge, serving them their only hot meal on a wintry night; in the process I saw where they spent their nights: coffin-sized cardboard boxes, their only homes. In San Francisco and Los Angeles, I talked to young AIDS sufferers in her hospices, knowing that I would never see them again. In Madrid, I met the aged and the destitute, wracked by a disease called loneliness, which Mother Teresa called the "leprosy of the West". And then the final triumph, a centre carved in the heart of Catholicism itself, in the shadow of St. Peter's in the Vatican, handed over by a Polish Pope to an obedient but persistent nun. She appeared a frail figure against the rigid hierarchy of the Church, some of whose members frowned in private that the Vatican had hardly any space let alone for a soup kitchen. Yet, in my eyes, Mother Teresa and John Paul II had, at one stroke, demystified a thousand years of sometimes rigid Papal tradition, in an understanding of the deepest Christian ethic that they shared.

Although she herself remained fiercely Catholic, her brand of faith was not exclusive. Convinced that each person she ministered to was Christ in suffering, she reached out to people of all religions. The very faith that sustained her infuriated her detractors, who saw her as a symbol of a right-wing conspiracy and, worse, the principal mouthpiece of the Vatican's well-known views against abortion. Interestingly, such criticism went largely unnoticed in India, where she was widely revered.

She was criticised for conversion. Yet in all the 23 years I knew her she never once whispered a suggestion regarding conversion. However, I asked her if she did convert. Without a moment's hesitation, she said, "I convert. I convert you to be a better Hindu, a better Muslim, a better Protestant, and a better Sikh. Once you have found God, it is up to you to do with him as you wish." While she never deviated an inch from her path and was a religious, not a social worker, she was quick to realise that in India, Catholicism was practised by a small segment, and the 19th century proselytising approach could not be sustained.

From her humblest beginning in the slums and streets, she reached out to alleviate the problem she encountered by the simplest and most straightforward means available to her. Her thinking was both simple and complex: when asked how she could touch a leprosy sufferer and clean his sores, she said she could do it because for her that man was the suffering Jesus. "I would not clean him for all the money in the world," said an observer. "Nor would I," Mother Teresa replied, "but I would do it for love of Him."

She could multi-task. She had to be a administrator par excellence to set up a multinational organisation that spread to 123 countries by the time she died, with the help of about 5,000 members of her Order, and countless millions volunteers. Her hands were always full, but comforting one individual at a time was more important than "getting lost in numbers"; it had to be that way, because each individual was a divine manifestation, each to be comforted, held, rescued, fed and not allowed to die alone.

I once called her the most powerful woman in the world. Mother Teresa replied: "Where? If I was, I would bring peace in the world." I asked her why she did not use her undeniable influence to lessen war. She replied: "War is the fruit of politics. If I get stuck in politics, I will stop loving because I will have to stand by one, not by all."

She had her critics. There was criticism about her taking money from dubious sources. I once asked her about it. She said without a moment's hesitation. "I accept no salary, no government grant, no Church assistance, nothing. But how can I refuse anyone who chooses to give money in an act of charity. How is this different from the thousands of people who each day feed the poor? My task is to give peace to people. I would never refuse." Yet she never asked for funds or even permitted fund-raising. Mother Teresa depended on providence. She believed if the work was intended, the money would come. If money did not come, the reverse held true.

What would happen to her mission when she passed on, I once asked her. She did not answer but instead only pointed her finger towards heaven. But I persisted. She laughed and said: "Let me go first."
I asked her the third time and this time she replied: "You have been to so many of our missions in India and abroad. Everywhere our Sisters wear the same saris, eat the same kind of food, do the same kind of work. But Mother Teresa is not everywhere. Yet the work goes on." Then she added: "As long as we remain committed to the poorest of the poor and do not end up serving the rich, the work will prosper."

15th August Programs…..

1.       PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS AT GOVT. SCHOOL, AMEERPET:

On the occasion of 15^th August we have distributed prizes to the winners of the Essay writing/ Elocution Competitions conducted on 31.7.10 under Career Guidance Program of VIKAS Project.

As the school celebrations taken less time and in order to conclude early school management has given lesser time (only 10 min) instead of the allotted time of 20-30 minutes. Any how we distributed prizes to all the winners but we did not find time to explain the cause of conducting these types of competitions and also to motivate them.

S.Sai Sirisha, D.Prabha, U.Divya, Priyanka, Manoj Kumar, Kanaka Rao, Prasanna have participated in this event.

2.       FLAG HOISTING AT FORUM FOR STREET CHILDREN:

MORNING:

We completed Flag hoisting along with HELPING HANDS Team. Few of our volunteers explained about Freedom fight, Fighters, Struggle and how we got the Independence and what we have to learn and implement in my daily life from these inspiring personalities and movements.

We distributed sweets and closed the session with songs by children of the home. Ranganath, Rahul, Arun and friends along with Me participated in these celebrations.

EVENING:

In the evening HELPING HANDS TEAM distributed prizes for competitions conducted on 8.8.10. They have arranged PUPPET SHOW.

R. Srivalli, K.Surendra, Ranganath, Arun and Suresh has participated in the evening (5 to 7PM) celebrations.

3.       BALARAKSHAK FOUNDATION:

K. Surendra, R. Srivalli has attended the 15^th august celebrations at B.R.F after this they meet Moulali (street children whom we joined here recently).

The above are the celebrations. Thanks for all the volunteers who make this different tasks easier with their active participation.

COMPETITIONS AT FORUM FOR STREET CHILDREN ON 08.08.10

Dear Team,

I have visited FORUM FOR STREET CHILDREN on 8^th August, 10 to conduct QUIZ, DRAWING COMPETITIONS along with HELPING HANDS TEAM and also to plan the further proceedings on how to go in this home to transform the children.

Lakshi Kanth Mantri explained his views of how to go on….he wants create committees involving Students of the same home. He wants to create Hygiene, Computer and Library committees and assign the home management responsibilities to the children.

But we (AMMA-ASWA) are more aiming at transforming the children attitude by inculcating discipline and creating interest on studies and also to change their attitude.

I decided to appoint a full time warden (student/men who have service motto) with full control on children instead of appointing a tutor for 2 or 3 hours daily (who have no control on children except these few hours).

We are working on this along with HELPING HANDS NGO. Once we get the permission from HOME MANAGEMENT. We will search for the person who is willing to do this job once we get the permission.

On 08^th August, 10 we have visited FUTURE FOUNDATIONS, Mirjalaguda, Near Sairam Theater, Malkajgiri, Hyderabad.

There are 25 orphan children in which 6(of them) are HIV affected. The founder of the home is Santosh started this with one children way 4 year back now it has 25 children's. He started with children in a room.

We have reached the home around 5 P.M and returned at 6.30 P.M. We distributed Bananas and Oranges. The children are very active and performed few cultural activities too.

Our volunteers enjoyed a lot as the children forced our volunteers to dance a bit for the songs Anaganaga (from Magadheera).

Our volunteers Kanaka Rao, Srinivasa Prasad Rao entertained the children with their songs.

My special thanks to Ranganath, Kanaka Rao, P.Pavan Kumar, S.Sai Sireesha, R.Srivalli, Arun kumar , Srinivasa Prasad Rao.

Thanks to all the volunteers for making task easier and joyful i.e. this month visit of homes under SHARE AND CARE PROJECT.

I request every one to participate in the above event and help me in fulfilling my assigned responsibility successfully in one hand and to spend some time with these innocent kinds and share joy and happiness in other hand…

I'm happy to inform you all we have successfully completed the first phase of career guidance program i.e., conducting competitions in Govt. high school at Chintalguda (Chintalbasti), Khairatabad in Hyderabad. We reached school by 9.45 am(app.). Firstly we took permission from Smt. Jaya garu ( Assistant Head madam) &                  Sri Loknadham garu ( Head master) and started competitions as per the schedule.

Essay writing competition:

We have started essay writing competition by 9.55 am (app.) and ended with 10.25 am (app.). 24 children from 8th to 10th class were actively participated in this competition.

Elocution Competition:

We have started elocution competition by 10.45 am (app) and ended by 12.50 pm (app.). 27 children from 6th to 10th class were actively participated in this competition.

HYDERABAD: To help critically ill children in dire need of medical attention and lack the financial resources to undergo treatment, Heal a Child Foundation, a charitable trust and non-profit organisation has come forward to bear the expenses of their treatment.

The mission of the foundation would be to heal and save critically ill children who may not survive, not because of their illness but only because the family cannot afford to pay for the medical expenses and treatment, said Rachna Mehta, a trustee with Heal a Child Foundation.

Reaching out

In Hyderabad, 10 children need critical care everyday. All of them need treatment, but we need to reach out to at least one child a day, said former Miss World Diana Hayden, who is the brand ambassador of the foundation.

The Foundation has tied up with six private hospitals in the city – Rainbow Children's Hospital, Lotus Children's Hospital, Apollo Hospital, KIMS Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Nice Hospital.

According to an understanding, the hospitals will treat the children in a special category and support the foundation by giving maximum possible concession on the medical bills, it was stated.

"At this stage, we are not going to the children. They have to go to the hospitals. If they are unable to undergo treatment because of financial constraints, then we step in," said Dr. Dinesh Kumar, a trustee of the foundation and director of neonatal and paediatric intensive care service at Rainbow Children's Hospital.

Appeal

Speaking at a press conference to announce the launch of the foundation, Ms. Hayden requested corporates to step in and help children in dire need of medical aid. We aim to raise funds for the care of critically ill children needing intensive care support with a specific focus on the new born. We are especially interested in saving the girl child, said Ms. Hayden.

Set up in June this year, the foundation has helped treat six children during the last 1.5 months, according to Dr. Dinesh. We also helped one child whose father is a worker in a cloth shop in Godavarikhani about two months back, he said.

Rajat's Club 'HOME' helps underprivileged get education

 Sharing ideas: Rajat Radhakrishnan, speaking to the students of Angappa CBSE School, in Coimbatore about awareness on child rights. 

Coimbatore: Coimbatore city has started seeing a number of children with societal consciousness emerging in the horizon.

One among them is Rajat Radhakrishnan, a Plus One student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School, RS Puram.

A livewire, he has any number of slogans regarding children and their rights up his sleeve.

Without stopping with words, he has formed a Club named HOME – Helping Orphans Meet Education.

Aim

According to him, the main aim of this club is to help the underprivileged children study.

Besides, it would strive to enlighten children on their rights and duties.

So far he has initiated a number of activities in this regard.

They include selling greeting cards for raising funds and conducting a survey on awareness of Child Rights among adults in Vaikalpalayam village.

Survey

He has attempted similar survey in CBM Government High School and Kulathupalayam Government High School also.

He has organised awareness camps on the topic 'Child Rights & Dreams' and 'No to crackers' and 'No to child labour' during Deepavali in various schools including Bharati Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sree Narayana Guru Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, CBM Government High School and Kulathupalayam Government High School.

Interaction session

The interaction programmes he has conducted include a programme called Ondru seruvom (Lets unite) for children from the Parvathipuram village at Shanti Ashram and a programme for the inmates of Don Bosco House at Lurdhupuram Church.

Recently, he conducted an awareness programme for children at the Angappa School also.

ASWA’s aim is to feed the Destitute mentally challenged who are on roads or who are in dire need of food. We talk to them and try to join them in the old age homes. We also donate used clothes along with Food distribution wherever necessary. Hope this will help to create a balance between excessive food production and its proper distribution to lower level needy people.

Our Volunteer Prabha used to distribute food packets to roadside destitute on special days. We used to assist her in these activities. Like other volunteers, Mr. Veera Bhadran. K got inspired from this and suggested us to take up this as a regular project. In July, 2011 our Management Board agreed and Mr. Uma Sankar came forward to take up the entire responsibility to execute this project along with Prabha. Just donating is not our objective, helping the needy is always our prime focus

We appreciate Sarath Chandra for taking the responsibility of Project Coordinator in 2013. Then he has visited different Govt. hospitals where many people are suffering with lack of food. Of course, Patients will be served food by hospital itself but what about other family members/attendees of the patient? We observed many and based on the collected feedback we started distributing 100 Packets of food in Niloufer Children Hospital, Lakdikapool, Hyd on every 3rd Monday@7PM (also on other special days based on sponsors). Now it’s increased to 150 packets with the initiation of donors and volunteers. Mohan Nag Kumar & his Mother, Dhanesh, Narender & Nagendra are regularly volunteering. We distribute Lemon Rice/Veg. Biryani/Pulihora/Curd Rice based on the situation. We are doing distribution in Nellore, Anantapur & Vijayawada

AKSHARAM - Education in Slums

We have a specific Project called “AKSHARAM“, which targeting Education & development of Slums(Children in particular) to provide Education and Hygiene.  


Our overall focus is on positive development in thinking process of Children as well as Parents of these Slums.

As a part of this we select a Slum and do the following things.

• Conduct Daily Morning/Evening Classes for 2 or 3 hours.
• Creating awareness about education & Hygiene
• Join them in Schools/Orphan Homes.
• Create interest in students through playful activities and interactive sessions.
• Create awareness about Plantation.
• Motivate and Counsel Parents with regular sessions & visits.
• Provide Notes Books, Stationery, Biscuits, Snacks & Healthy drinks.
• Conduct Medical Camps & awareness session.
• Planning to Teach few Job oriented courses/Self sustaining courses like Stitching, tailoring, Computers.
• Work for over all development of a Slum to the possible extent on step by step basis.

We conducted activities in the following 6 Slums

• 3 Slums in Bala Nagar (Amru Nagar, Karmika Nagar & Venkateswara Nagar)
• 1 Slum in Mondibanda Nagar of Addagutta 
• Metro Slum
• Karmika Nagar
