Opinions Required for Annam Parabrahmam Project - Urgent

From: Sarath Chandra Vakati <svakati@spcapitaliq.com> Sat, Aug 3, 2013@10:45 PM

Food Distribution at Hospitals: - In our regular process i.e Distribution of Food to only Road Side destitutes (only mentally challenged+who are unable to move) taking at least 3 to 4hours at a time. Searching the needy is taking more and more time. Petrol cost is becoming more than food packets preparation cost. So we thought doing the same at a specific place where there are poor & needy. Many Suggested  the above 2 Hospitals, which are always full of patients who are poor & needy.

So with the help of NATCO Volunteers in the hosptial we again visited Niloufer and MNJ Cancer Hospital and met RMO to know the requirement of food distribution to the poor patients. They said there are at least 3000 in both the hospitals  including Patient and their Attendees. They said they will distribute food for  in-patients and there is much need for Food Distribution to attendees and out patients. 95% of the people who visit these hospitals for treatment are poor and below middle class. For them every Rupee is valubale. So distributing food to them may reveal some burdon on them. So that they can spend the same amount for Medicines / Shelter etc.,

Our Observations
  • In Niloufer Hospital ISCON is providing daily afternoon meal to all inpatients. We visited that same.
  • One more organization KIDMAT is also distribnuting food daily afternoon to around 350 attendees.
  • Generally we see manFood balances from Parties, Marriages, and Functions, few of them are coming and distributing here.
  • Most of them are doing food distributions in the afternoons
  • In MNG, there is temple in the hospital entrance. They are providing daily breakfast and occasionally lunch

What we can do in these hospitals
  1. We can distribute food in the evening (as afternoon most of them are donating) in both the hospitals
  2. We can conduct Games to Cancer affected children in MNG Hospital
  3. We can distribute old clothes in both the hospitals
  4. RMO advised us to distribute nutritious diet (dry fruits) or biscuits or fruits to women after their delivery
We are going to discuss the following points in our August Monthly Meet
  1. Whether we can switch over our Food Distribution from Road Side Destitutes to Speicific Space i.e In Hospitals
  2. If so How many packets and How many days/times we can go for food distribution (which depends on funds availability)
  3. Is there any interested Volunteers/Donors who can cook food regularly or occassionally for FoodDistribution (Free/Paid) based on their convienience. If few comesforward even occassionally then it will be easy for us.

Please revert back your suggestions and feed back by tomorrow afternoon 2.00 p.m, by that we can discuss and finalize in our monthly meet.

Dear All,

As per previous conversations and discussions in the meet we would like to visit few possible options to execute Annam Parabrahmam Projects:

1st Option - Niloufer hospital
We visited different Hospitals ( ESI, Sarojini Devi Eye and  Niloufer Hospitals) to find out the turnover of poor & needy people who are eagerly waiting for food. After our primary observation we decided to concentrate on Niloufer hospital (http://www.nilouferhospital.com/).

21st Feb, 11 Raghavendra and Duraga Prasad again visited the hospital. They met the RMO, Hospital Staff and Patients and conducted a small survey to collect the required information.  We also communicated the Natco Help Desk Volunteers, Sudha, at this hospital. She said that many people in which few are of good financial status. So she advice us to intimate her before couple of days of our distribution and she will prepare the needy persons list based on our budget.

As per records the total Inpatients of the Hospital were 500 to 600. For the Inpatients food will be provided by the Government and their attendees have to arrange by their own and they are allowed to cook on their own in front of the hospital premises.

This is the actual situation and if we, majority, select this for our project, we can provide maximum 100 packets to the attendees with proper planning (in my opinion). But we shouldn’t feel whether that person is really needed /capable or not. Based on the situation we just need to simply distribute the food. In the initial stages it is difficult to identify only few people and distribute the food. So it may be better to utilize the services of Natco Volunteer Sri. Sudha Garu.

Through which we can save one meals money for the patients/their relatives.

2nd Option – Road side destitute

This is our current practice where we distribute by searching road side distributes /needy persons. Here most of the beneficiaries earn money by begging and many of them is addicted to many bad habits. This is known fact and all of us experience with these option.

3rd Option – Thalassemia Sickle Society
Recently we have visited Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society to donate Blood. We have been in touch with this Society from past 1.5 Years. Where they are freely providing blood transfusion, Subsidy medicines and other related treatments to the Poor Thalassemia Children (Blood for free & other services at low costs).

We met the patients and their attendees & Dr. Suman Jain to collect information. Based on the Survey it is better if we can implement our Food Distribution here as most of the Patients parents are below middle class. Even we can distribute to all. This is costly decease where we need to spend more money to their survival.

We forgot to add an important point that Dr. Suman Jain advised us to distribute Rice, Dall, and Medicines etc., instead of Food. She requested us for more medical health in place of all these, if possible. So if we select TCSC we need to distribute Rice & other.

And she gave an assurance for giving list of people who are Very Poor and for whom we can donate these. So we can donate all of them who are in the list or we can donate on rotation basis, which will be decided based on funds/budget.
